Learning to Paint from Life

Students transitioning from drawing to painting, looking for a starting point to painting or just looking to delve deeper into painting. Primarily working on still lifes, students will learn to build a composition and value pattern through sketch and then move to developing a well-constructed painting. Class will include preparation, demonstration and instruction on how to set up your own palette. Students are encouraged to work on individual projects with instruction provided. Multi-Level Printmaking              
Instructor: Paula Campbell 
Ink on paper: Few things are more beautiful or mysterious. And of all the ways to put ink on paper, etching is perhaps the most tactile and satisfying. In this class you will explore intaglio techniques such as etching and aquatint using zinc or copper plates, as well as relief processes on linoleum or wood. Discover the joys of printing and learn skills both modern and antique. Make prints look luscious on an assortment of papers. Students of all levels are welcome. Come create, learn, discuss and have some fun! Lab time included.

Figurative & Portraiture Studio

In this class you will learn how to draw the human form from direct observation, beginning with short and working to longer poses, exploring line, tonal value, proportions and perspective... all essential to seeing and translating the figure as a whole. All levels of experience are welcome as well as all mediums. Class will include preparation and demonstration. Model fees included.

Intermediate & Advanced Printmaking Intensive
Instructor: Jessica Feith
Set up for a full day in the Print Studio! Have time to concentrate your focus and make significant progress on a project. Designed for the experienced printmaker, these longer, instructional studio sessions allow for plenty of guidance and feedback. While being spaced a week apart, the sessions also provide opportunity to work leisurely at home or in the print studio on any plate-making, proofing or editioning that can be completed independently. Projects in Intaglio, Relief and Polyester-plate-lithography are all welcome.

The Path to Painting Success: Portrait Intensive (5 hour sessions!)

This class will introduce the elements for making representational art in the classic sense. We will cover the basics of portraiture from a construction drawing through painting the delicate values and color transitions of skin. Students will learn essentials for creating dimensional, life-like paintings including: luminous flesh tones, composition and design, values, edges, color harmony, observation from life, and paint application through demonstrations and group exercises. When live models are used, fees payable to instructor.

You Can Draw

The Art of Encaustic Painting

This class will cover everything you need to know about painting with beeswax, an ancient art form that has become more accessible to modern-day artists. Students will explore various methods used when painting with the encaustic medium; how to fuse and transfer images, collages and embedding objects, painting with inks, and shellac burn techniques. All levels welcome.
