Learning to Paint from Life
Instructor: Lisa DePinto

Students transitioning from drawing to painting, looking for a starting point to painting or just looking to delve deeper into painting. Primarily working on still lifes, students will learn to build a composition and value pattern through sketch and then move to developing a well-constructed painting. Class will include preparation, demonstration and instruction on how to set up your own palette. Students are encouraged to work on individual projects with instruction provided.

Brush Up! Painting & Drawing

This is your chance to work in the medium of your choice! Diana will demo both drawing and painting techniques as well as give individual instruction to students of all levels. Emphasis will be on improving your own personal style in a welcoming and creative atmosphere.

Multi-Level Printmaking              
Instructor: Paula Campbell 
Ink on paper: Few things are more beautiful or mysterious! And of all the ways to put ink on paper, etching is perhaps the most tactile and satisfying. In this class you will explore intaglio techniques such as etching and aquatint using zinc or copper plates, as well as relief processes on linoleum or wood. Discover the joys of printing and learn skills both modern and antique. Make prints look luscious on an assortment of papers. Students of all levels are welcome. Come create, learn, discuss and have some fun! Lab time included!

Brush Up! Evening Painting Sessions

WEDNESDAY

The Path to Painting Success (Special- 5 hour sessions!)
Instructor: Michael Van Zeyl
Open to all levels, you will learn about the elements of great picture making and essentials for creating dimensional, like-like paintings. Subjects covered will include surfaces and preparation, basic block-in techniques, value scale arrangement, basic proportions/mass drawing, how to achieve color harmony and more. You can work from a still life set-up, study a master painting or work from your own photo reference material.
When: 5 Week session - 10/10 - 11/7

The Path to Painting Success- Portrait Intensive (Special- 5 hour sessions!)      
 
Instructor: Michael Van Zeyl
Open to all levels, this class will introduce the elements for making representational art in the classic sense. We will cover the basics of portraiture from a construction drawing through painting the delicate values and color transitions of skin. Students will learn essentials for creating dimensional, life-like paintings including: luminous flesh tones, composition and design, values, edges, color harmony, observation from life, and paint application through demonstrations and group exercises. When live models are used, fees payable to instructor.

Etching Wednesday

Instructor: Jessica Feith 
Transform your ideas, sketches or snapshots into something fresh and new using centuries-old techniques!  Instruction will focus on traditional intaglio methods of etching on copper or zinc plates using various resist grounds and aquatints. Class members may receive individualized guidance in other print methods as well.
All levels welcome.  Lab time included.

Painting Studio

Delve deep into your painting practice! Master composition, gesture, line, color study & expressive color usage. Techniques such as broken brushstroke, optical color mixing, layering and glazing will be studied. Individual instruction and group critique will enhance the students' learning experience.

Watercolor

Instruction in the art of watercolor painting is geared to all levels. Advanced students are encouraged to continue their development. Drawing skills, color and subject matter will be explored. The layering technique will be taught for those interested. Demonstrations and group projects complement individual student attention.

Gouache & Oil Painting   FULL

Portrait and Figure Drawing - Special 5- week session!

Figurative work is the most challenging and stimulating form of drawing- a great addition to any art portfolio! In this class you will learn to draw the human form from direct observation, beginning with short and working to longer poses, exploring line, tonal value, proportions and perspective...all essential to seeing and translating the figure as a whole. All levels of experience are welcome as well as all mediums. Class will include preparation and demonstration. Model fees included.

The Art of Encaustic Painting

This class will cover everything you need to know about painting with beeswax, an ancient art form that has become more accessible to modern-day artists. Students will learn about its diversity and explore mixed media wax painting.

SUNDAY

Open Studio
Members are invited to this popular addition to our studio schedule. Come use our studio on Sunday Afternoons and work on your own projects in a relaxed, inspirational setting. No instruction, but a monitor will be available for drop-in registration. Prepay for five sessions if you prefer. Dates will be announced during the term.
