Intermediate Drawing

This class is intended as a continuation of Fundamentals of Form. Handling drawing materials is the key to the use of tonal relationships while basic pictorial perspective is vital to creating the illusion of form. Students will learn to combine these skills to improve their representational picture making and to create abstract variations.

Printmaking

Join in discovering the joy of printmaking with instruction in all etching techniques:  aquatint, intaglio, color viscosity, multiple color printing, relief and monoprinting. Portrait Art

This course incorporates drawing exercises to make portrait art less intimidating and aid in your success. Using a live model, you will learn composition, tonal and linear studies in a variety of art media. Classes include discussions, demos and handouts. All levels welcome.

Etching

Giedre Zumbakis
In-depth instruction is provided in all intaglio techniques, including etching, aquatint, mezzotint and color printing. The emphasis is on imagery development and individual expression. Photo etching is included with the new non-toxic Japanese photo sensitive plates. This class is open to beginner and advanced printmakers. Class starts February 3rd. Lab time included.

Painting

Didier Nolet
Come and join this painting class designed for students of all levels.  Learn the basic techniques or refine your skills in the media of your choice: oil paints or acrylics. Didier Nolet, a well-established painter raised and trained in France, is an expert in many different media. Didier will help you master the painting process from preliminary drawings to painting studies to your final paintings. Come learn about composition, perspective, and color. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Intermediate & Advanced Printmaking Seminar

Figure Art

Using a nude model, this course will touch on important figurative drawing skills as well as decoding and translating what you’re seeing. With the use of quick sketches students will work on capturing movement in their drawings. Increasingly longer poses during the term will allow for contemplating the weight and mass of the form, larger scale work and the use of color mediums. Classes will include demos and discussions. All levels are welcome.

Watercolor Afternoons

Fran Vail

Bring your paints, projects you’ve started or would like to start, and your enthusiasm. In this loosely structured class, the goal is to advance your level of comfort with watercolors by studying various materials, composition, techniques and useful tips as they arise from your individual projects. Fran will do some demos, but mostly you’ll paint, acquiring tips and skills you’ll use for a long time.

Etching

For the beginning and experienced printmaker, this course will focus on the traditional intaglio methods, etching, mezzotint and collagraph. Learn to create your image on a new, yet age-old, canvas–the metal plate which can be inked and printed multiple times and in different ways. Printmakers of all disciplines are welcome as instruction will be tailored to meet individual needs and interests. Lab time included.

Watercolor

Instruction in the art of watercolor painting is geared to all levels. Advanced students are encouraged to continue their development. Drawing skills, color and subject matter will be explored. Beginning Beading

In this nine week beginning beading course, students will learn the basics for creating fantastic jewelry! Basic stringing and closing techniques for both single row and multi row bracelet, necklace and lariat projects will be taught. Wire wrapping for earrings, pendants and chain work will also be covered. Working with memory wire, a taste of found object inclusions, hand knotting, and some macramé work will be covered.

Digital Photography & Basic Photoshop

Improve your photographs by taking advantage of all that digital photography has to offer.  Instruction will concentrate on understanding your digital camera and its settings and will provide an overview of digital cameras and their similarities and differences with film cameras.  Instruction on camera functions, and methods and software used for getting images off the camera and onto the computer in an organized fashion will be covered.  Students will also cover the essentials of composition in landscape and portrait photography. Students will explore simple manipulation of images in Adobe Photoshop programs.  Demonstrations will be made using instructor and student images brought to class on disc or camera storage devices. The class will also explore how elements of composition can be applied after the image capture using digital cropping and tonal adjustments. A digital camera is a requirement after the first session of the course.

Oil & Acrylic Painting

David Gista
Learn the art of painting in both oil and acrylics with French artist David Gista. Trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, he will teach you shapes, color and composition. Through study and exercises you will acquire skills that allow you to develop your personal work. David will follow each student individually while creating a group dynamic.
