At Ease at the Easel

Nancy Behles

We provide the wine and cheese. You bring the fun. Grab your pals and join instructor, Nancy Behles for a relaxing, “no fear” approach to acrylic painting. Students will complete a 9”x 12” still-life canvas during this two hour session. All supplies are included. All levels welcome. Beginners and beginner wannabees—this is your chance to take a chance!

Translating Photos into Paintings

Brian Sindler

This unique workshop combines the fundamentals of plein air (outdoor) painting with the utilization of photos, computer images and sketches to create small, medium and large paintings in the studio. Students will learn to simplify complicated images to create more powerful and attractive compositions. The instructor will demonstrate how to handle paint, make compositional decisions and mix color using a limited palette. Participants will learn how to use these techniques in their paintings of landscapes and other subject matter. Suggested for acrylic and oil painters of all levels. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Travel Sketching at Ryerson Woods

Nina Weiss

You love to draw and you love to travel. How best to combine the two? Set in the beautiful forested grounds of Ryerson Woods, this class will teach you how to maximize your drawing experience, drawing on the landscapes of your travels. Emphasis will include: how to extract your vision from the landscape using elements of composition; how expressive line and gesture are used to capture the landscape; and how color can be used as an exciting addition to your drawing. Using water-based pens and colored pencils, students will begin their own travel sketchbooks using inspirational local landscapes. A supply list will be provided upon registration. Water-soluble Sketch pens will be available for purchase from the instructor.

Spring Blossoms in Watercolor

Fran Vail

As “April showers bring May flowers”, get ready to paint both vibrant and delicate blossoms available during the spring. Examine the basic shapes and hues and practice painting their delicate forms and colors to capture their freshness and beauty using transparent watercolor. Fran will demonstrate brush techniques and talk about the elements of design such as composition, placement, and line quality and leave lots of time for you to paint. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Painter’s Pastime: Creative Still Life Painting in Oil

Bonnie Paruch

This popular workshop is designed for novice and experienced painters who are interested in capturing the beauty of flowers and nature in the time honored tradition of still life painting. Using the expressive medium of oil paint Bonnie will help students interpret and paint a variety of unique still life subjects. She will share her simple three value approach which takes the mystery and confusion out of seeing and painting the effects of light. Bonnie’s guided observations and frequent demonstrations will build your confidence. Students will leave the workshop with greater skill in drawing, creative composition, color harmony, brushwork and self expression. A supply list will be provided upon registration.
