Delve into Gouache
Instructor: Nina Weiss
Gouache is a water-based opaque paint with a bright saturated color and velvety matte texture. In this class we will explore the technical possibilities of gouache such as linear and tonal technique; painterly and graphic application; color, and composition. Gouache is a paint medium ideally suited to both beginner and advanced painters. Because gouache is a water based medium, it requires a minimum of materials and dries quickly for reworking.

Botanicals in Colored Pencils!! - Special 2 consecutive Wednesdays
Instructor: Lyndsay Murphree
This class will introduce you to colored pencil techniques such as burnishing and blending as well as the basics of drawing botanical subjects. We will focus heavily on color mixing through layering in order to create realistic shadows and highlights. For beginners who want to try a new medium as well as more experienced artists who want to learn more about colored pencil.

Encaustic Painting Workshop - All Materials Provided!

This one-day workshop will cover everything you need to know about painting with beeswax, an ancient art form that has recently become more accessible to modern day artists. Students will learn about encaustic painting and its diversity, basic studio safety when painting with beeswax, and will explore mixed media wax painting ranging from image transfers, collage, embedding objects into wax, to impressionistic painting techniques. You will create a piece of artwork during this workshop. All supplies provided (cost includes supply fee). All levels welcome, come learn in a comfortable studio setting.

For printmakers, it is so interesting to print on all kinds of different papers. Imagine printing on a different surface altogether... imagine printing on clay! In this workshop you will compose designs or use photographs as part of your design and transpose them into printmaking blocks. You will learn the process and materials needed when printing on clay... and leave with a permanent piece of original art! Your tiles will be fired in a kiln for pick up at a later date. Beginners welcomed and encouraged to be introduced to the wonderful world of printmaking!

The plein air experience is something every artist should try! Especially in beautiful autumn! It's not WHAT we paint, it's HOW that matters!
Instructor: George Shipperly
The focus of this workshop will be on composition, design, color, harmony, and originality. Students will be encouraged to work from still life set-us or your own photographs. (Photos will be used as a reference.) From your photographs you will learn how to edit down to the essence of what is really necessary. Individual instruction will be ongoing with discussions at the end of each day and group critiques if requested. Brief demos will be given, but most of your time will be spent learning the many ways to use and apply the exciting and versatile medium of oil pastel!

Image to Abstract II 3- day Workshop
Instructor: Mark Daniel Nelson
This workshop is for the painter ready to push his or her work beyond the point of recognizable subject matter into the realm of pure abstraction. Students will start with traditional representational approaches and move through progressively more abstract techniques until arriving at purely non-objective paintings. Special attention will be paid to the elements of composition as they apply to abstract painting. Through a combination of slideshows, discussions, assignments and critiques, this workshop will expose students to new artistic possibilities for self-expression. Students should bring their own reference photos and also plan to take photos during the workshop. Printed photos and/or digital images on laptop/iPad may be used for reference. Photo editing software is also helpful but not required. Students will have the option to paint from a still life set up.

Approaching Abstract Painting - New 2-day workshop

Explore ideas and methods that will kick-start your abstract painting. This new two-day workshop will warm up your abstract thinking and strengthen your awareness of compositional techniques. We will create quick, small paper collages, then move on to create one or more abstract paintings emphasizing core principles of composition - helping you to develop your own visual vocabulary.
