Botanical Drawing with Colored Pencils
Instructor: Lyndsay Murphree
This class will introduce you to colored pencil techniques such as burnishing and blending as well as the basics of drawing botanical subjects. We will focus heavily on color mixing through layering in order to create realistic shadows and highlights. For beginners who want to try a new medium as well as more experienced artists who want to learn more about the exciting possibilities of colored pencils.

Xerox Transfer and Monoprinting Workshop – All supplies included!
Instructor: Jessica Feith
This one day workshop is geared toward fans of instant gratification and those who are attracted to collage, color and layered imagery. Learn to ink and print directly from your own Xerox photocopies. Bring in photocopies of your own drawings, doodles, photos, or even found objects, mementos, and anything you can fit on a photocopier's scanner bed! You will be layering your imagery along with rolled and painted inks to create at least one collaged composition on high quality paper. Beginners and experienced printmakers welcome. All materials with the exception of your own photocopies will be provided. (Photocopies that are high contrast work the best, and must be toner based, not ink jet based.)

Abstract Painting from the Figure

Do a deep dive into color and shape - finding inspiration in observation of the posed model. Create quick, small, colorful paper collages to kick-start abstract thinking. Move on to develop a larger painting, exploring your own expression of visual experience. You will be encouraged to utilize core principles of composition to strengthen the power of your work. Bring a bag lunch for 1/2 hour break and we’ll discuss concepts together!

Saturday Skies- 6/29, we’ll study the many moods of skies, an essential aspect of landscapes. Using washes, dry-brush and other techniques, we’ll explore dramatic clouds, storms and sunsets.
Sunday Trees - 6/30, we’ll delve into the many species and seasons of trees. Mixing natural greens, exploring light, shadow and texture will enhance your painting in all areas. Through demonstrations and individual coaching, these classes will elevate your watercolor paintings – no matter your skill level. Beginners welcome!

We are excited to have Ken Call, AWS, NWS, TWSA - noted portrait watercolorist with us this spring! The workshop will begin with a portrait demonstration. Each student will be provided with a reference photo to paint from before the session begins. You will then need to come to class with a drawing already on paper - ready to paint. At the end of the session there will be discussion of our day’s work. All levels are welcome! As Ken says. “…whatever your present level, we will have fun – and you’ll go away learning a thing or two!”

Print on Clay – 5 Saturdays

For printmakers, it is so interesting to print on all kinds of different papers. Imagine printing on a different surface
altogether …imagine printing on clay! In this workshop you will compose designs or use photographs as part of your design and transpose them into printmaking blocks. You will learn the process and materials needed when printing on clay… and leave with a permanent piece of original art! Your tiles will be fired in a kiln for pick up at a later date. Beginners welcomed and encouraged to be introduced to the wonderful world of printmaking!

Delve into Gouache
Instructor: Nina Weiss
Gouache is a water-based opaque paint with a bright saturated color and velvety matte texture. In this class we will explore the technical possibilities of gouache such as linear and tonal technique; painterly and graphic application; color, and composition. Gouache is a paint medium ideally suited to both beginner and advanced painters. Because gouache is a water based medium, it requires a minimum of materials and dries quickly for reworking.

Image to Abstract III - Three Day Workshop!
Mark Daniel Nelson
This workshop is for the painter ready to push his or her work beyond the point of recognizable subject matter into the realm of pure abstraction. Students will start with traditional representational approaches and move through progressively more abstract techniques until arriving at purely non-objective paintings. Special attention will be paid to the elements of composition as they apply to abstract painting. Through a combination of slideshows, discussions, assignments and critiques, this workshop will expose students to new artistic possibilities for self-expression. Students should bring their own reference photos and also plan to take photos during the workshop. Printed photos and/or digital images on laptop/iPad may be used for reference. Photo editing software is also helpful but not required. Students will have the option to paint from a still life set up.
Limited to 14 students!
