Fall Leaves Bowl-Family Ceramics Workshop

Moms, Dads, & Grandparents: Bring your child for one-on-one quality time! Using natural elements, leaves an various stamping techniques, make a beautiful large bowl. You need no experience and will be quided step-by-tep through the entire process. Use colorful non-toxic glazes to paint your bowl that will then be fired and ready for pick-up in about 2 weeks. All supplies, materials and firing costs are included. All ages welcome!

Linoleum Printmaking Workshop
Judith Hladik-Voss
One of printmaking’s most rewarding techniques! No prior experience necessary. Judith will demonstrate and work individually with students of all levels. Students will learn all the necessary steps to produce their own designs-from note cards to fine art prints. This technique has applications in fabric and quilt art. Once linoleum printing is learned, it can be done in the home without a printing press! Suggested for both teens and adults.

Come for an enlightening demonstration and lecture! Join Judith in exploring a revolution in the world of printmaking: a water-based, eco-friendly printmaking system that can be used not only for monotype, but also intaglio and aquatint! Judith will demonstrate and discuss how the Akua color system can help you explore and broaden your artwork and protect your health. A fun and informative session for both beginning and accomplished printmakers. No supplies needed-just bring your lunch! Optional: Bring an aquatint or mezzotint plate to print, if you have one!

Watercolor Basics
Fran Vail
Spend an afternoon reviewing many of the basic techniques of watercolor painting. Washes, wet-on-wet, resists, splatters and imprinting will be demonstrated. Fran will also cover color mixing and brush techniques, like dry brush and calligraphy strokes, that let your brush do most of the work. Participants will paint a few specific subjects like skies and trees. Get your basic "painting vocabulary" under control so you can easily take your painting to the next level. This isn't just for beginners; even those with long time watercolor experience can sometimes use a refresher on the basics or discover a new technique or materials.

Glorious Fall Trees and Skies--Watercolor

Autumn is a painter's dream! Trees, golden light on brilliantly colored leaves set against skies, crisp blue or dramatically stormy...all collaborate to create the ideal setting for watercolor painting. The rich colors of autumn foliage against vivid, cloud-skudded skies will be inspiration as you strengthen your understanding of composition, color values and mood as well as various techniques in paint-handling, brush-work and color mixing. There wll be demonstrations, a critique and plenty of one-on-one coaching.

Monotyping Workshop

It’s a bit like drawing, and a lot like painting! It’s both! Join Judith in exploring the creative possibilities of this fun and easy printing process using both oil and water-based monotype techniques. Judith will demonstrate and work individually with students of all levels. Using the skills learned in this class, students can produce beautiful color prints at home without a printing press…or, monotype in black and white, then hand color their prints. The creative possibilities are endless. Suggested for both teens and adults.

Color Revealed: Theory and Practice
Nina Weiss
During the two afternoons that this workshop meets, Nina will strip away the mysteries of color theory! Through experimentation and discussions about visual examples and color theory, students will gain an understanding of color that is applicable to all visual arts practices. Psychological and scientific theories will be used to teach color relationships and mixtures, Students will explore color relationships using colored paper and water-based paints.

Translating Photos into Paintings

This unique workshop combines the fundamentals of plein air (outdoor0 painting with the utilization of photos, computer images and sketches to create small, mediu, and large paintings in the studio. Students will learn to simplify complicated images to create more powerful and attractive compostitions. The instructor will demonstrate how to handle paint, make compositions, make compositional decisions and mix color using a limited palette. Participants will learn how to use these techniques in their paintings of landscapes and other subject matter. Suggested for acrylic and oil painters of all levels.

Photography for Artists-One Day Workshop
Brad Schade
An intensive two-hour workshop to help artists learn about digital photography. This class will help those artists who photograph their subjects for later use in painting and drawing in the studio. The fundamentals of digital photography will be covered as well as particular advice to help artists capture images for their artwork. Instruction will also include methods for using a digital camera to capture your artwork for cataloging purposes. The instructor will also help students to better understand the functions of their own cameras. Class size is limited to 6. Bring your camera and manual.
