NEW! Portraits in Watercolor!
Instructor: Ken Call
We are excited to have Ken Call, AWS, NWS, TWSA - noted portrait watercolorist with us this winter! The workshop will begin with a portrait demonstration. Each student will be provided with a reference photo to paint from before the session begins. You will then need to come to class with a drawing already on paper - ready to paint. At the end of the session there will be discussion of our day’s work. All levels are welcome! As Ken says. “…whatever your present level, we will have fun – and you’ll go away learning a thing or two!”

Encaustic Painting Workshop…all materials provided
Instructor: Robin Samiljan
This one-day workshop will cover everything you need to know about painting with beeswax, an ancient art form that has recently become more accessible to modern day artists. Students will learn about encaustic painting and its diversity, basic studio safety when painting with beeswax, and will explore mixed media wax painting ranging from image transfers, collage, embedding objects in wax, to impressionistic painting techniques. You will create a piece of artwork during this workshop. All supplies provided (cost includes supply fee) All levels welcome, come learn in a comfortable studio setting.

Print on Clay – 5 consecutive Fridays
Instructor: Paula Campbell
For printmakers, it is so interesting to print on all kinds of different papers. Imagine printing on a different surface altogether …imagine printing on clay! In this workshop you will compose designs or use photographs as part of your design and transpose them into printmaking blocks. You will learn the process and materials needed when printing on clay… and leave with a permanent piece of original art! Your tiles will be fired in a kiln for pick up at a later date. Beginners welcomed and encouraged to be introduced to the wonderful world of printmaking!

Learn a “no fear” approach to creating a 9” x 12” acrylic still-life painting while enjoying delicious snacks! Taught by experienced art teacher Nancy Behles, in our incomparable, historic studio. All supplies are included. All levels welcome. Beginners and beginner wannabees – what a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends!

Delve into Gouache
Instructor: Nina Weiss
Gouache is a water-based opaque paint with a bright saturated color and velvety matte texture. In this class we will explore the technical possibilities of gouache such as linear and tonal technique; painterly and graphic application; color, and composition. Gouache is a paint medium ideally suited to both beginner and advanced painters. Because gouache is a water based medium, it requires a minimum of materials and dries quickly for reworking.

Approaching Abstract Painting
Instructor: Julia Katz
Explore ideas and methods that will kick-start your abstract painting. This workshop will warm up your abstract thinking and strengthen your awareness of compositional techniques. We will create quick, small paper collages, then move on to create abstract paintings emphasizing core principles of composition - helping you to develop your own visual vocabulary.

Watercolor: Spring Color Workshop All supplies included!

Spring revels in lush hues of green, pinks and blues. And painting is all about color: mixing the exact color you want, applying it in different ways to create the effect your painting needs, placing one hue next to another to enhance the mood you wish to convey. We'll cover everything you want to know about the particularities of transparent watercolor, and you'll never again ask, "How did you get that color?"
