Image to Abstract II
Instructor: Mark Daniel Nelson
This workshop is for the painter ready to push his or her work beyond the point of recognizable subject matter into the realm of pure abstraction. Students will start with traditional representational approaches and move through progressively more abstract techniques until arriving at purely non-objective paintings. Special attention will be paid to the elements of composition as they apply to abstract painting. Through a combination of slideshows, discussions, assignments and critiques, this workshop will expose students to new artistic possibilities for self-expression. Students should bring their own reference photos and also plan to take photos during the workshop. Printed photos and/or digital images on laptop/iPad may be used for reference.
