Winter 2022 Youth Classes

The NSAL provides a creative, nurturing environment. Research shows that participation in the arts at a young age helps children in all areas of learning.

Drawing to Painting (8-11 years)
Instructor: Lyndsay Murphree

This class will help your artists develop drawing skills. Perspective, composition, shapes, and shadows all come into play before you put paint on canvas. Artists will move into painting with that fundamental knowledge and learn color mixing and basic techniques to create their own paintings! 
When: 1/10 - 3/21 (9 classes)
No class 1/17, 2/21

Create with Clay for Kids (8-12 years)
Instructor: Anne Pattis

Playing with clay is a particularly valuable activity for kids due to the involvement of working with your hands and the dexterity it takes to form an object out of a lump of wet clay!  Using hand-building techniques, this class will give students the chance to experience the tactile properties of clay – while creating their own pieces in a supportive and safe space. New demonstrations every week.
When: 1/11 - 3/22 (11 classes)

Painting & Drawing (10-14 years)                                                        
Instructor: Corky Barsky

Paint and draw people, animals, landscapes, and still life objects, while learning to employ the principles of composition and color. In this class, students will learn the process of planning, developing, and executing artwork. We will use acrylics, watercolor, color pencils, pastels, and charcoal. Students will develop their creativity and advance in their knowledge of different mediums. 
When: 1/12 - 3/23 (11 classes)

Mixed Media (10 - 14 years)
Instructor: Corky Barsky

Looking for a way to use your imagination to express yourself through art?  Then this is the class for you!   You will explore different methods and materials by painting, drawing, constructing, sculpting, modeling and much more.  We will use a wide variety of materials including: paint, oil pastels, markers, tissue paper, wood, cardboard, paper, plastic and everyday recycled objects.  Students will be challenged each week with guided projects and will be encouraged to use their imagination to let their individuality shine.​
When: 1/13 - 3/24 (11 classes)
Time: 4:00-5:30pm

Pop-Up Art Studio (6-9 years)
Instructor: Susan Tecktiel

Using a variety of materials, young artists work on projects that encourage children to use their imagination as they draw, paint, sculpt, and make prints, collages and more. Each week students will create a project inspired by a different artist.
When: 1/14 -3/18 (9 classes)
No class: 2/18
Time: 4:30-5:45pm

Saturday Morning Artists (7-11 years)                                                      
Instructor: Lyndsay Murphree

Faces, places, animals, and nature- let your imaginations run free! This class is for students who love to draw, paint, sculpt, and want to explore different materials and techniques.
When: 1/15 - 3/19 (9 classes)
No class: 2/19
Time: 10:30am-12:00pm
